Midterm

Proposal:

For my midterm I wanted to try to make a flower and work on it for the final, so I can make it look more realistic. Since I've never worked on Maya, this was a difficult task. Although a flower can seem easy, it was actually very hard.

Production Log/Self-Evaluation:

First I tried to make the pedals using a sphere and then squishing them to make them .look flat. I then tried to put the pedals together to start to create the flower but I was having problems with the pedals being behind each other, instead of being on top. I made the stem of the flower by using a cylinder and then I was able to curve it using the bend tool and playing with the curvature. I also added an ambient light to add some shadow to one side. I added color to the pedals and stem using the lambert option because I didn't want a shine on it. After working with this attempt for a while, I decided to start over because it didn't look the way I wanted it to look.

After starting over I decided to use the curve tool to make the shape for the pedals and then used the revolve tool to make it all around. I also decided not to flatten it out because it made it seem like it was more 3D. Then I created a sphere in order to make the middle part of the flower. And the stem is a cylinder and I also curved it using the bend tool.

I then decided to add some color to the flower. I used the lambert option so that there would be no shine on the pedals. After I decided to add an ambient light to make it look brighter, as if it were outside. Then I added a plane on the background to be able to add some color to the background. I tried to add a camera to this but I'm not sure if it worked. It was going too fast, and even after I tried to add more frames the camera was still moving too fast. That is something that I will try to work on more for the final.

I would definitely like to work more on this for my final. I want to make it look more realistic and also learn to make a more in depth background.

Overall I think this project helped me understand new ways to use Maya. There were a couple of things that I had problems with but I learned how to fix some problems. Although my modeling doesn't look as realistic as I wanted it to, I think this was a great start.

Using Curve Tool

These models were used by using the curve tool. I found these a little easier because I was able to draw out half of the shape and then use the revolve option for it to complete it all around. The one thing that I had problems with was making them look smooth. I added color to the last one by choosing the blin option because it gave it a highlight that I though would be more realistic if that were a red metal vase.

NURBS Primitive 2

For this continuation of my lamp, I decided to add color and lighting. I clicked on each to add material, for the bottom of the lamp and pole I used the lambert option because it needed something simple without any highlights. The lamp shade I also used lambert in a yellowish tone. The top picture was what it looked like without any ambient light. Since it is a lamp, I decided to play around with the ambient light to make it appear as though the lamp is on. I made an ambient light towards the top of the lamp shade to make it look like it was on.

NURBS Primitive

This was my first NURBS primitive using shapes. I used s sphere for the bottom of the lamp, I used the squishing tool to make it flat. Then I used two cylinders, one for the pole and one for the lamp shade.

This is another attempt at making a simple shapes to make a wine glass.
